Whiteware

The production of whiteware was forced upon Bridgeness Pottery when the Board of Trade took control of pottery manufacturing in
June 1942.

A few years later, the pottery became licensed by the Board of Trade to produce undecorated domestic earthenware under the Domestic
Pottery (Manufacture & Supply) Order, 1945.  Wares had to be marked with certain letters to indicate the maximum prices that could be
charged.

Manufactured at Bridgeness were Group I ware which carried the letter C and Group VI ware (jugs only) which was marked with the
letters CZ.

Whiteware was produced until the pottery's closure and this can be seen in the following examples of backstamps.
