The Modern Athens series of transfer prints
produced by James Jamieson was probably
inspired by the book Modern Athens (left)
which comprises of views of Edinburgh from
original drawings by Thomas H. Shepherd.
Jamieson’s prints are NOT copies of
Shepherd’s.
The book was first published in 1829 but
Jamieson’s series is later, probably mid
1840s.
Tolbooth Kirk and Scott Monument both
feature in Jamieson's series and they were not
completed until 1844.
The following transfer prints are all the scenes that I know. There may be more. If you have scenes (photos or actual pieces) that do
not appear here please let me know.
